Get Ready for the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito This March 30th
Rosarito’s “Playa El Bebé” will be bustling with fishing enthusiasts this Sunday, March 30th, as it hosts the initial round of Baja California’s state fishing competition. The event, anticipated to attract a large number of participants, received nearly 150 anglers from across the state and Southern California last year.
Organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association with support from the local government, the tournament is being spearheaded by TJ Fishing Club representatives Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno. This competition is the first of three selective tournaments that will help qualify participants for the State Championship.
The event starts early at 5:00 AM with participant registration, with the actual competition beginning at 7:00 AM. Weigh-ins will conclude by 1:00 PM, but anyone in line by the deadline can still compete. Categories include children’s, women’s, mojarra, and others, with awards presented at the end. In addition to the competition, there will be raffles and local fish cuisine available.

Victor Hugo Méndez, from SEPESCA BC’s Sport Fishing department, presented financial support to aid event expenses. Following this tournament, additional rounds of the state competition will happen on April 27th at Sunset Beach, Ensenada, and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón, San Quintín. Successful anglers will get the opportunity to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Jalisco this September.
