Rosarito is set to host the first round of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th at “Playa El Bebé.” The event anticipates a strong turnout, building on last year’s participation of nearly 150 anglers hailing from across the state and Southern California.

This competition is listed on the official calendar of Baja California’s Fisheries Secretariat (SEPESCA BC) and is backed by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration. The event is organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association and hosted by the TJ Fishing Club, bringing together local talents such as Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

The tournament is the first of three beach fishing competitions that will determine qualifiers for the State Championship. Activities kick off at 5:00 AM with participant registration, and the fishing officially starts at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in concludes at 1:00 PM, though participants already in line by that time will still be eligible.

Competitors can look forward to prizes in various categories including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species. The day will also feature raffles and local culinary delights focusing on fish-based dishes.

For those interested in joining, registration details, including costs, rules, and prizes, can be accessed by contacting 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Additional information is available on the TJ Fishing Club website.

In support of this event, Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has provided financial backing to assist with event-related expenses.

Registration is available on the day of the event or can be done in advance at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, the series continues with two more rounds: April 27th at Sunset Beach, Ensenada by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón, San Quintín by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top performers will advance to the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco, on September 19-20.
