Rosarito is set to host the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament at Playa El Bebé this Sunday, March 30th, marking the first leg of the Baja California state fishing competition. Expecting a robust turnout, the event drew nearly 150 anglers last year from across the region and Southern California.

The tournament is part of the official calendar organized by SEPESCA BC, under the support of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, and is orchestrated by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. This year, the event hails the collaboration with TJ Fishing Club, spearheaded by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

This tournament is the first of three beach fishing competitions qualifying participants for the State Championship. Activities kick off early, with registrations opening at 5:00 AM, followed by the official start of fishing at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in station will close at 1:00 PM, but those already in line by then can still join the competition.

Categories for awards include children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species, with raffles and delicious local fish dishes enhancing the day’s excitement. For those looking to join, registration details, costs, rules, and prizes are available by contacting 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Further information can also be found on their official website.

With financial backing presented by Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, the tournament promises a well-supported and vibrant event. Registration is possible on the day or beforehand at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or the Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, the subsequent rounds of the state competition will unfold on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. The top performers will qualify to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship, set for September 19-20 in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
