Fishing enthusiasts, mark your calendars for March 30th! Rosarito’s beautiful “Playa El Bebé” is set to host the first segment of Baja California’s state fishing competition. The event is expected to attract numerous anglers from across the region, following last year’s impressive turnout of nearly 150 participants from Southern California and other parts of the state.

This tournament is an essential part of the official calendar under the support of SEPESCA BC and the administration of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, overseen by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. The tournament is spearheaded by TJ Fishing Club with representatives Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

The fishing competition consists of three selective beach tournaments that will decide who qualifies for the State Championship. The day will commence at 5:00 AM with angler registration. Fishing officially begins at 7:00 AM and the weigh-in concludes at 1:00 PM, offering plenty of time for participants to return and have their catches considered.

Prizes will be awarded in various categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and more. Additionally, attendees can look forward to raffles and a taste of locally-prepared fish dishes. Interested participants can learn more about registration, fees, rules, and prizes by reaching out via phone at 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or through email at tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Victor Hugo Méndez, in charge of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has also provided financial backing to support this thrilling event. Those wishing to compete can register on the day of the tournament or beforehand at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking forward, additional rounds of this state competition are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín with the Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Leading anglers from these tournaments will earn the opportunity to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship, taking place on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
