This annual event is anticipated to draw a significant number of participants from across the state and Southern California.
As part of the official calendar organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association with support from the local government, the tournament serves as a qualifying round for the State Championship. Hosted by the TJ Fishing Club, the event promises a day filled with fishing and community spirit. Registration opens at 5:00 AM, with the competition starting at 7:00 AM and closing at 1:00 PM. Enthusiasts are encouraged to register early as last year saw nearly 150 anglers partake in the event.
Prizes will be awarded in various categories, including children’s, women’s, and for catches like mojarra, along with raffles and local seafood dishes available. For those interested, more information on registration and event rules can be obtained by contacting the organizers at 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Additional resources are available on their website.
The event is backed by financial support from Victor Hugo Méndez, the head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, to aid in covering logistical expenses. Participants can sign up on the day of the tournament or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.
Looking Forward
Following this tournament, two more qualifying events are scheduled. The next will be on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, overseen by Club Pura Vida, and the subsequent on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, managed by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Leading participants from these competitions will have the chance to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Jalisco this September.
