Anglers and fishing enthusiasts, mark your calendars! The much-anticipated “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito is set to take place this Sunday, March 30th, at Rosarito’s “Playa El Bebé.” This event marks the beginning of Baja California’s state fishing competition series, and is expected to draw a large crowd, with approximately 150 participants from the region and Southern California anticipated, based on last year’s turnout.

This tournament is part of the official schedule of SEPESCA BC and is supported by the Baja California administration under Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. The event has been organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association and is hosted by the TJ Fishing Club, represented by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

The tournament is one of three beach fishing competitions that will determine who advances to the State Championship. Starting at 5:00 AM, participants can register, with the competition officially beginning at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in concludes at 1:00 PM, with all anglers in line by that time eligible to compete.

Participants will vie for awards in various categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other fish species. Raffles and local fish cuisine will add to the festive atmosphere. Those interested in participating can receive information on registration, rules, and prizes by contacting 664 493 6014, 664 339 9173, or emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Further details are also available on the club’s website.

Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has provided financial support for the event to assist with expenses. Registration is available both ahead of the event at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria, and on the day of the event.

Following Rosarito’s competition, the next rounds will be held on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada by Club Pura Vida, and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, hosted by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. The top anglers will earn the opportunity to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
