### Get Ready for the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito This March 30th
Rosarito’s picturesque “Playa El Bebé” is gearing up to host the first phase of Baja California’s state fishing competition this Sunday, March 30th. Organizers anticipate a large number of participants, continuing the tradition from last year when nearly 150 anglers attended from various parts of the state and Southern California.
This fishing competition is a key event on the official calendar of SEPESCA BC, endorsed by the administration of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. The tournament is organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association and hosted by the TJ Fishing Club, with leadership from Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.
As the initial round of three selective beach fishing tournaments, “El Bebé” provides an opportunity for anglers to qualify for the State Championship. Registration will open at 5:00 AM, kicking off the event, with fishing officially starting at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in will conclude at 1:00 PM, with all participants in line by that time allowed to compete.
Awards will be given in various categories including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species. Additionally, there will be raffles and opportunities to taste local fish cuisine. Interested participants can find details on registration, costs, and rules by contacting 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Further information is also available on their website.
Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has extended financial support to help the organizers manage event expenses. Registration is available on-site the day of the tournament or can be completed in advance at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.
Looking forward, subsequent rounds of the state competition will be hosted on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada by Club Pura Vida, and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top performers from these events will earn the chance to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship on September 19-20 in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
