Rosarito’s “Playa El Bebé” is set to host the first round of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. The event promises an exciting day for participants and spectators alike, drawing an expected large crowd based on last year’s turnout of nearly 150 anglers from across the region and Southern California.

Organized in collaboration with the state’s fishing clubs and backed by the administration of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the tournament is part of the official calendar of SEPESCA BC. This year’s event is hosted by TJ Fishing Club, led by representatives Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

As the first of three beach fishing tournaments, it will qualify participants for the State Championship. The day begins early with registration at 5:00 AM, followed by the official start of fishing at 7:00 AM. Participants have until 1:00 PM for weigh-ins, ensuring everyone in line by that time has their catches considered.

Prizes will be awarded across multiple categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species. The event will also feature raffles and delicious food prepared with local fish. Those interested in participating can get information on registration, costs, rules, and prizes by contacting 664-493-6014 or 664-339-9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Further details can also be found on their website.

Victor Hugo Méndez, from SEPESCA BC, has provided financial backing to support the event’s organization and expenses.

Enthusiasts can register on the day or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or the Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, subsequent rounds of the state competition are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, managed by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Successful anglers will have the opportunity to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco, on September 19-20.

In addition to hosting exciting events like the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament, Rosarito is also investing significantly in community development and infrastructure. The city recently announced an investment of 22 million pesos aimed at boosting infrastructure in Primo Tapia. This investment underscores the city’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents while enhancing the region’s appeal to tourists and investors.

Moreover, Baja California is preparing for potential wildfire risks due to a dry winter and Santa Ana winds, prompting officials to sound the alarm and implement precautionary measures. This proactive approach ensures that the region remains safe for its inhabitants while maintaining its natural beauty.

The government has also expanded programs to support deported Mexicans, providing essential resources and opportunities to help them reintegrate into society successfully. This initiative highlights the region’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for all its residents.
