Rosarito, Baja California, is all set to host the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament at Playa El Bebé on Sunday, March 30th. This tournament marks the beginning of the Baja California state fishing competition series, and a large turnout is anticipated following the participation of nearly 150 anglers from both the state and Southern California last year.

This tournament is a key event on the official calendar of the Baja California Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture (SEPESCA BC), supported by the regional government under Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, and organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. This year, the tournament is hosted by the TJ Fishing Club, with representatives Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno leading the event.

This is the first of three selective beach fishing tournaments in which participants can qualify for the State Championship. The day begins with registration at 5:00 AM, while the competition starts at 7:00 AM and ends with a weigh-in process that wraps up by 1:00 PM. Participants must be in line by 1:00 PM to compete.

The tournament will conclude with prize distributions for various categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and others. In addition, there will be raffles and local fish delicacies available for participants and spectators.

Interested anglers can get more details on registration, fees, rules, and prizes by calling 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or via email at tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Further information is also available on the club’s official website.

Victor Hugo Méndez, the head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has extended financial support to the organizers to aid in covering expenses for the event. Competitors can register on the day of the tournament or pre-register at specific locations such as Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada and Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, the state competition will continue on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top anglers will earn the chance to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in September at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
