### Farewell to Journalist Eglantina Esquivel

On Wednesday, August 14, family and friends gathered to bid a final farewell to journalist Eglantina Esquivel at a mass held at Our Lady of Loreto Parish, located on 19th Street in the Libertad Parte Alta neighborhood of Tijuana. During the service, Esquivel was remembered for her unwavering commitment to contributing to society through her journalistic work. Her family acknowledged her as the first woman to lead a media outlet in Tijuana when she founded the magazine “Lucha de las Féminas” in 1974, which continued until its last issue in 2023.

Eglantina Esquivel passed away on the morning of Sunday, August 11, at the age of 82 in the ISSSTECALI clinic in Tijuana. She had been hospitalized for 15 days due to pneumonia. However, her daughter Rosa attributed the rapid decline in her health to the severe depression she experienced following the murder of her son, photojournalist Margarito Martínez, on January 17, 2022.

“My mother’s health deteriorated due to depression after my brother’s death. This unfortunate situation not only took my brother’s life but has now also resulted in the loss of my mother,” Rosa said.

In addition to “Lucha de las Féminas,” Eglantina also worked at the newspapers “Nuevo Mundo” and “ABC.” She was nationally recognized as “La Pluma de Oro” during her nearly 50-year career.
