East Zone Hospital Awaits Opening

East Zone General Hospital construction is finished, but no opening date set. Tests ongoing, with staff training needed before operations begin. Stay tuned for updates on the inauguration.

### Completion of East Zone Hospital Construction; No Opening Date Yet

The construction of the East Zone General Hospital has been completed, yet there remains no official date for its opening, according to Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo, head of the Secretariat of Urban Infrastructure Development and Regional Reorganization (Sidurt). Preliminary operation tests began two weeks ago, although several issues, including the need for further cleaning of the oxygen supply system, have been identified.

The hospital, initiated on December 10, 2022, by the Governor of Baja California, was initially projected to be operational by December 2023. It is now fully equipped with medical beds, operating rooms, isolated X-ray rooms, and tomography units.

Although the parking and outpatient consultation areas are ready, the hospital requires additional approvals and training for specialized healthcare staff before it can begin operations. Espinoza Jaramillo mentioned that a team of nurses and doctors has already started training and that the Department of Health would soon set a date for when the hospital will receive its first patients.

The East Zone General Hospital, constructed with an investment of 270 million pesos by the state government and an additional 41 million pesos from IMSS Bienestar for equipment, will feature an emergency area, trauma rooms, six operating theaters—including one for humanized childbirth, and three for ambulatory surgery, amongst other facilities. 385 medical positions have been opened during the first phase, with space for 60 regular beds and 60 recovery and surgical beds.

According to more recent reports, the East Zone Hospital is now tentatively set for inauguration by September this year, pending final inspections and staff training completion. Authorities continue to conduct rigorous checks to ensure all systems, including the oxygen supply and critical medical infrastructure, are fully operational and safe for use.

Furthermore, officials are keen to ensure that the healthcare staff, including doctors and nurses, are adequately prepared to provide the highest quality care from day one. The hospital’s extensive facilities, funded by significant investments both from the state and federal government, are expected to greatly augment the medical services available in the region.
