DIF Workers Demand Pay Hike

Protesting DIF Rehabilitation Center workers demand wage increase, causing delays in therapy services for patients like Nereyda Quirija, threatening progress. Administration urged to negotiate for resolution.

### DIF Rehabilitation Center Workers to Protest

On Monday, 23 employees from the DIF State Integral Rehabilitation Center (CRI) in Tijuana began working under protest to demand a wage increase. Physical and psychological therapy patients arriving at the center were not informed of the temporary suspension of services on September 2 and had to reschedule their treatments.

Among the affected patients is Nereyda Quirija, a 54-year-old who has been receiving physical therapy for cortical arthritis and a deteriorated spine for three months. Her treatment was halted due to the staff’s protest. Quirija pointed out that each therapy session costs 45 pesos, and consultations are 85 pesos, emphasizing that the work stoppage could reverse her progress.

The protesting group includes psychologists, physical therapists, special education teachers, IT professionals, language therapists, and social workers. Guadalupe BarrĂ³n Diego, whose five-year-old son with autism attends behavior therapy at the center, had her appointment delayed by a year due to staffing shortages and now faces another wait.

In July, workers had already reported that they had not received a salary increase in over ten years, despite multiple requests.
