Mérida, Yucatán – Esteemed author and recipient of the José Emilio Pacheco Excellence in Letters Award, Alberto Ruy Sánchez, introduced his latest literary collection, “The Library of Desire,” at the Yucatán International Reading Fair (FILEY) on March 28, 2025. This remarkable event was accompanied by Andrés Ramírez, the editorial director from a leading publishing house.
The series, which began in 2021 with “The Names of the Air,” has expanded over the years to include titles such as “The Demons of the Tongue,” “Nine Times Awe,” “With Literature in the Body,” “The Hand of Fire, I (Mogador Quintet 1),” “The Hand of Fire 2 – A Story of Touch,” “Praise of Insomnia,” “Secret Gardens of Mogador,” and “On the Lips of Water.”
During the presentation held at the Uxmal Hall 4, Century XXI Convention Center, Merida, Ramírez highlighted that this marked the first time the books were showcased collectively. He encouraged those unfamiliar with Ruy Sánchez’s work to seize the opportunity to embrace the entire collection.
Alberto Ruy Sánchez reflected on his long journey of creation, sharing his unexpected experiences from the public’s reaction. He mentioned, “When I published the first book, the reaction was surprising, prompting me to incorporate insights from surveys in each new book, which extended the project from a few years to three decades. These books contain feedback from around 600 women and 200 men.”
Ramírez commended the enduring significance of printed books, saying, “Unlike e-books or audiobooks, the printed book retains an irreplaceable symbolic value.” Looking ahead, he announced that the upcoming tenth book in “The Library of Desire,” titled “Sadness of Truth.
