### DAMM Calls for Budgetary Autonomy in Upcoming Administration
Enrique Lucero Vázquez, head of the Municipal Direction of Migrant Attention (DAMM), has expressed the need for budgetary autonomy in the next municipal administration. Lucero emphasized that having an independent budget would allow the director to allocate resources without needing approval from the Secretariat of Welfare.
“Having an autonomous budget would enable the director to decide the allocation of resources,” Lucero stated.
From Tuesday, August 13, until September 30, Roma Hernández, a current employee within the direction, will oversee ongoing programs and projects while a new director is appointed. Lucero cited his early departure as due to pressing matters in Mexico City and the search for new employment opportunities.
The proposal for budgetary independence, which will also include increased support for shelter, blankets, economic aid, and food for migrants and refugees, will be handed over to the new administration led by Ismael Burgueño. Another priority is to develop a Creole guide for Haitian migrants.
“There is a need to adopt Creole as a third language after Spanish and English,” Lucero mentioned, highlighting the significant influx of Haitian migrants in the city.
Lucero also recommended that the upcoming administration retains the existing staff, praising their training in Human Rights and international associations.
“The staff knows how to handle any situation, and the direction will continue to operate efficiently until September 30,” he added.
