**Multiple Blockades Reported in Culiacán, Sinaloa**

Several local media outlets reported multiple blockades in various areas of northern Culiacán de Rosales, Sinaloa. This region was notably where Ovidio Guzmán López, also known as “El Ratón” and the son of infamous drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, was arrested on January 5, 2023. Guzmán López is believed to be a leader of the factions “Los Chapitos,” “Los Menores,” and/or “Los Chiquillos.”

The first arrest of “El Ratón” took place on October 17, 2019, in Culiacán, Sinaloa. However, due to severe unrest caused by “Los Chapitos” in the city—referred to as “El Culiacanazo”—President Andrés Manuel López Obrador decided to release him. Guzmán López was captured again on January 5, 2023. Despite attempts by “Los Chapitos” to recreate the chaos of 2019, the Mexican Army successfully detained “El Ratón.” He was then transferred to the Federal Center for Social Readaptation Number 1, “El Altiplano,” in Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico, until his extradition to the United States on September 15 of the same year.

At around 3:00 PM on August 29, 2024, a series of roadblocks began, including the burning of trucks, trailers, and vans along Highway Mexico 15, starting at the intersection with the road to Jesús María. Armed civilians also took over the toll booth on the highway and set up blockades which included vehicles and tire-popping devices at the Limón de los Ramos intersection.

Additionally, helicopters were seen flying over the affected areas. Earlier that same day, there were shootouts in the Paredones community, part of the Jesús María municipality. These incidents resulted in several injuries, including members of the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA).
