Coco Shines at Plaza Familia

Celebrate the spirit of “Coco” at Plaza de la Familia with authentic Mexican delights, engaging activities, and Día de los Muertos festivities, alongside new Halloween experiences at Disneyland Resort in 2024.

### Coco Takes Center Stage at Plaza de la Familia

One of the most beloved spots at Disneyland Resort during Halloween Time is undoubtedly the Plaza de la Familia, where characters from “Coco” make a grand appearance. This year, 2024, promises an extra special event at Disney California Adventure with the return of “A Musical Celebration of ‘Coco’” starting August 30. The event features authentic Mexican costumes, a plethora of engaging activities, and photo opportunities at the Family Tree, alongside crafting sessions with Miguel and more. The popular menu from last year will also make a comeback this fall.

Chef Elena Aranda, originally from Jalisco, shares insights on the culinary offerings, emphasizing the blend of authenticity and park-specific innovation. “We base a lot of what we do on traditions I grew up with during this season,” says Chef Aranda. “We look at how we can bring those to the park in a unique way, and thus our offerings are created.” The menu includes delights such as horchata cheesecake, carnitas burrito, huarache with rice and beans, watermelon with chamoy, a watermelon cocktail with Tajín, and the chef’s favorite, flautas in green sauce.

The celebrations at Plaza de la Familia will extend until November 2 to honor Día de los Muertos. Juan Aldava, a spokesperson for the event, highlighted the special merchandise available, some of which could become collectible items. “This year we’re celebrating a new line of merchandise inspired by Disney Pixar’s ‘Coco,’ which will debut alongside Plaza de la Familia this fall,” Aldava noted. From themed ears to fans, bags, and t-shirts, there’s something for everyone, including a playable, light-up guitar to recall the enchanting music of “Coco.”

Aldava emphasized the attention to detail in the merchandise and the importance of honoring Día de los Muertos traditions through Disney’s comprehensive experience, combining music, entertainment, food, and merchandise. “This celebration allows our guests who know the film to learn more about this tradition with these beloved characters,” he concluded.
