Coastal Vendor Inspection Plan

Street vendors along Tijuana’s coast face thorough inspection due to federal property regulations. Playas de Tijuana delegate requests comprehensive checks by local authorities to ensure compliance with permits and safety standards.

### Comprehensive Inspection to Be Conducted on Street Vendors in Coastal Areas

A thorough inspection of street vendors operating along the coastal zone of Tijuana will soon take place. The action follows a notification by the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa), emphasizing the need for rigorous regulation of permits due to the area being federal property.

Anabelle Contreras, the delegate for Playas de Tijuana, stated that a formal request has been sent to the Municipal Inspection and Verification Directorate (DIVM) to address this issue. Vendors have been moving to the sandy areas of the beach due to ongoing repairs on the boardwalk at the Malecon, prompting the need for a detailed review.

Contreras highlighted that while some vendors have shifted to the beach to continue their sales during the boardwalk’s unavailability, others are taking unauthorized advantage of the situation. She confirmed that coordination with Profepa and DIVM would ensure all vendors comply with necessary federal and local regulations.

Despite the renovations, Contreras noted that tourism in the region remains unaffected, benefiting from holiday seasons and favorable weather conditions. She mentioned that approximately 10,000 visitors frequent Playas de Tijuana on weekends during the warm season, with high tourism rates also recorded during the weekdays.

Additionally, Contreras urged citizens to exercise caution around construction zones and adhere to safety markings, as areas under construction often pose risks. The beautification project is reportedly more than 10% complete, with signage placed to guide people around the construction site.
