CNTE and State Govt Meeting

CNTE teachers to meet state officials over unpaid salaries for interim teachers. Protests continue as educators demand timely payments for overdue wages, emphasizing the importance of fair compensation.

### CNTE Workers to Meet with State Government Next Wednesday

Teachers from the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) will be meeting with state government officials next Wednesday to address the issue of unpaid salaries for interim teachers. This decision follows a protest organized by CNTE workers at the State Arts Center (Ceart) shortly after the government’s morning press briefing.

“We are here trying to establish a communication channel so that teachers get paid what they are owed,” said Jorge Huizar GutiĆ©rrez, a member of the CNTE committee in Baja California and spokesperson for the organization. “Unfortunately, the government has not understood this and wants to present half-truths. Interim or substitute teachers, for example, are owed up to eight paychecks and are getting paid just one or two.”

The protestors chanted phrases such as “Day worked must be paid,” “Solution, solution, and we’ll go back to the classroom,” and “Marina, I invite you to work without a salary to understand the plight of teachers in your state.”

Huizar GutiĆ©rrez highlighted that Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda had claimed that all overdue payments had been settled, but this was not the case. “This is a complete lie. Here is the teacher needing to protest for their salary to be paid. It is the state’s duty to fulfill this responsibility. If a teacher works a day, that day should be paid. Unfortunately, we have backlogs from 2021, 2022, and 2023,” he added.

During the protest, a group of teachers met with state government authorities and agreed to convene again, this time with the Secretary of Government. However, the location for this meeting, whether in Mexicali or Tijuana, is yet to be confirmed, according to Huizar GutiƩrrez.

### Additional News on CNTE Protests

Following the initial meeting, tensions remain high as CNTE workers continue their protests at various locations. Recently, the CNTE staged another demonstration at the Tijuana-Tecate toll booth, demanding timely payments for interim teachers. The workers reiterated the need for consistent and complete paychecks, with some educators not receiving payment for more than eight fortnights.

This series of protests highlights the ongoing struggle between the CNTE and the state government, as teachers struggle to secure their rightful earnings. The CNTE urges the state to resolve these issues promptly to prevent further disruptions in the education system.
