### No Significant Increase in Chiapan Migrants to Baja California, Despite Rising Violence

Despite the escalating violence in Chiapas, there has not been a notable increase in migrants from Chiapas to Baja California, according to Pat Murphy, director of Casa Migrante. The majority of Mexicans displaced due to violence arriving in the state are from Guerrero and Michoacán. Chiapan migrants, on the other hand, have been opting to relocate to Guatemala.

Murphy observed, “So far, we haven’t seen an influx from Chiapas, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if it starts happening.” He highlighted that recent weeks have seen a rise in migrants arriving at local shelters, though their stays are usually brief as they await their CBP ONE appointments.

The trend indicates that most migrants arriving daily with appointments at the shelters come from Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador, with occasional arrivals from Mexico. “The majority are successful; they reach the United States and have up to two years until they are called to court,” Murphy added.
