## Gas Line Accident Caused by CFE Lacked Proper Signage
On November 12, 2024, a significant incident occurred outside the IMSS clinic 20 in Tijuana involving the accidental perforation of a gas line by personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). The mishap was traced back to the lack of proper signage around the gas line, as revealed by CFE’s communication department.
The event unfolded when CFE workers were in the process of removing an electricity pole that had been knocked over in a vehicle collision behind the clinic. During the drilling operation to create a base, the workers inadvertently punctured a gas pipe. The absence of correct signage in the area where the gas pipeline ran was cited as the crucial factor leading to the incident.
Emergency services, including firefighters, civil protection units, and Baja Gas and Oil, were promptly called to the scene via a 911 call made by CFE personnel. The situation emerged at about 10:40 a.m., prompting the evacuation of 523 individuals from the clinic’s premises.
In response, five fire stations with 30 personnel, police officers, the municipal civil protection, and the Red Cross joined efforts to control and mitigate any risks. According to the fire department, there is now no longer a threat of explosion, though caution is advised for those navigating the vicinity.
