### “Casa Paloma”: A New Home for Children Opens in Tijuana
A new beacon of hope for children in need opened its doors on Monday, September 23, 2024, in the Panamericano neighborhood of Tijuana. “Casa Paloma” aims to provide a loving home, education, and proper upbringing for children without families.
The vision behind Casa Paloma comes from its founder, Cecilia Coppel Calvo, who faced her own challenges on the path to motherhood. “I always wanted to be a mother, but I couldn’t. I went through six miscarriages. I imagined my babies as little doves in the sky and decided one day I would open a children’s home and name it Casa Paloma,” Coppel Calvo shared.
After becoming a mother to two biological children and adopting a daughter, Coppel Calvo continued to pursue her dream. The project kicked off after connecting with the Misioneras Franciscanas de Guadalupe, who managed a home in Culiacán, Sinaloa. With their support and collaboration from the Diocese of Tijuana, Casa Paloma became a reality.
The new children’s home accommodates 11 children with room for up to 50, from newborns to age 12. Children have access to bedrooms, a library, a dining room, and a play area.
“We provide comprehensive care: academic, nutritional, physical health, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual support,” said Coppel Calvo. The home focuses on children from 0 to 6 years old, aiming for early intervention and reintegration with their biological families or adoptive homes. However, care extends up to age 12 due to sibling groups or longer legal processes.
“Our work is intricately coordinated with the DIF and the state’s Minor’s Protection Office. They have guided us to ensure we meet all necessary requirements and refer children who would benefit most from our services,” she noted.
Archbishop Francisco Moreno Barrón attended the inauguration to bless the facilities. “We believe this house will offer a unique model, with all the necessary resources, trained personnel, and optimal conditions to truly focus on the child’s holistic healing and rights,” he concluded.
### Secondary Article: New Childcare Initiatives Addressing Critical Needs
In light of the opening of Casa Paloma, other initiatives are also emerging to support children in need across the region.
In a recent development, the government has announced the establishment of additional resources and facilities to address the increasing number of children requiring care and protection. This comes after concerns were raised about the lack of space in forensic cemeteries and the urgent need for more child welfare services.
Local organizations have stepped up efforts to offer comprehensive support systems. These include educational programs, healthcare services, and psychological support to ensure every child’s right to a nurturing upbringing is met.
According to recent reports, other homes and shelters are also being proposed or expanded to accommodate the growing number of children in need. These steps reflect a broader commitment to the wellbeing of vulnerable children and the communities at large.
Stay tuned for more updates on these heartening developments.
