Revocation Process Underway for Californias Fair Permit

The town council of the 25th Municipality has approved a resolution to initiate the revocation process of the concession granted to the Interactive Museum Tijuana A.C. for the organization of the Californias Fair. The process will be overseen by the Special Commission for the Development of the Concession of the Californias Fair, including councilors Arturo Aguirre, Melisa Pacheco, and Miguel Antonio Loza, in coordination with the Municipal Legal Counsel.

Should the Commission declare intervention as a precautionary measure, the Municipal Government Secretary, led by Arnulfo Guerrero León, will be authorized to conduct the annual celebrations commemorating Mexico’s Independence Day.

During a council meeting held on March 28, Councilor Arturo Aguirre noted that the Municipal Government of Tijuana has been empowered to organize the patriotic festivities either directly or through third parties. At the session’s conclusion, Secretary Arnulfo Guerrero León emphasized that the formal process of rescinding the concession is underway, noting that an actual revocation has not been confirmed yet.

Arturo Aguirre further pointed out that the Interactive Museum Tijuana A.C. failed to submit an operational manual on time, which is crucial for ensuring the safety of attendees. Additionally, the association has accumulated significant debts and delays concerning the use of Morelos Park for hosting parts of the fair. Despite being notified to present an updated operation manual, they did not comply.

Since 2018, the Museum had been granted a concession for another ten years for continuity purposes, aimed at attracting visitors. However, it has continuously failed to fulfill contractual obligations, particularly related to safety protocols and large outstanding debts with the Municipal System of Thematic Parks of Tijuana, especially concerning the use of palenque and parking facilities.

Given the failure to comply with two notifications, today’s session sought authorization to begin the process of revoking the association’s concession.
