**Cafetón N°17: A Community Effort to Support Children Battling Cancer**
The 17th edition of Cafetón, taking place on Saturday, February 22, is set to raise vital funds for the treatment of children receiving cancer care through the Fundación Castro Limón. This year, the initiative aims to sell 9,500 beverages across various coffee establishments including Grupo Baristi, Baristi Tostadores, and Café Hidalgo, with all proceeds contributing to the medical needs of young patients.
Valeria Osuna, Marketing Coordinator at Fundación Castro Limón, stated that the institution is currently supporting 88 active patients. The funds collected will be evenly distributed among them to assist in covering their therapeutic costs. With the price for an entire treatment reaching approximately 2.7 million pesos, every donation—big or small—plays a crucial role.
Karen Duran, Community Manager for the Marketing Team, underscores the importance of these contributions, noting that a single chemotherapy session can cost around 5,000 pesos, while a leukemia patient might need up to 300 such sessions. The donations will fund not only the oncological aspects but also provide nutritional and psychological support for both the children and their families.
Jorge Fregoso, Public Relations Manager for Grupo Baristi, explained the straightforward donation process. Patrons can simply inform the cashier they wish to make a donation, whereupon they will receive a beverage in return. Hot drinks require a minimum donation of 140 pesos, while cold beverages are set at a 160 peso minimum. Importantly, Grupo Baristi absorbs the costs of materials like cups and sugar, ensuring that every cent of the donation goes directly to the foundation.
Participants can visit any of the 25 Tijuana locations and additional outlets in Culiacán and Guadalajara on the day of the event to contribute. The effort not only aims to meet its beverage sales target but more importantly, to bolster comprehensive treatment including medical attention, medication, labs, and surgical procedures if necessary, besides essential nutritional and emotional support.
