Caballero Security Continues

Montserrat Caballero’s security ensured by Ismael Burgueño post-threat; Mexicali tragedy with two casualties highlights ongoing safety issues and water distribution concerns remain unresolved.

## Montserrat Caballero’s Security to Continue, Confirms Ismael Burgueño

As the former mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero Ramírez prepared to leave office, she requested a risk assessment from the incoming administration led by Ismael Burgueño. This analysis was to determine whether her security detail should continue following threats from a criminal group earlier in the year. The current mayor has assured that Caballero will indeed maintain her protective detail.

“There is no issue regarding her security. Former Mayor Montserrat Caballero will have her security detail as stipulated by regulation. We have received the risk assessment she submitted, and I have instructed that she continues to receive necessary protection due to her tenure in office,” stated Burgueño.

The request from Caballero was publicized on September 28, just two days before she officially stepped down. She had declared, “We requested a risk assessment and left it to the new administration to decide if I am at risk. I am entrusting them with my security.”

Earlier this year, Caballero was allegedly threatened by a criminal faction after refusing to enter an agreement with them. An attack on her security, specifically targeting her bodyguard, Rosalva—known as ‘La Puma’—occurred on May 17. Subsequently, Caballero was relocated for security reasons to the Military Barracks of the 28th Infantry Battalion of the II Military Region, located in the El Rubí neighborhood, for the remainder of her administration.

Since she was not re-elected, the responsibility for her protection transferred to the current mayor, Ismael Burgueño, who has decided to permit the continuation of her security detail.

### Mexicali Starts the Day with Two Casualties

On the same day the announcement regarding Montserrat Caballero’s security was made, Mexicali awoke to reports of two fatalities. One involved a vehicular accident, while another person drowned in an irrigation canal. Local authorities responded to the incidents, but the specifics and identities have not been fully disclosed. These unfortunate events highlight safety concerns that necessitate ongoing attention from local emergency services and government officials.

Additionally, on a different front, efforts to restore normalcy after a water distribution issue are ongoing.
