On Monday, August 12, 2024, Tijuana’s City Secretary, Miguel Ángel Bujanda, is set to appear before the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to provide his testimony in connection with the discovery of a dead body and a purported threat from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) against him. These were found inside a vehicle.
Over the weekend, a silver Volkswagen Passat was found abandoned in the Sánchez Taboada neighborhood in eastern Tijuana. Inside was the body of a male wrapped in a blanket. A white poster with black lettering, allegedly containing a threat directed at Miguel Ángel Bujanda from the CJNG, was also discovered in the vehicle.

María Elena Andrade, the state attorney, confirmed the discovery but noted that the investigation is still in its early stages, making it challenging to provide specific details regarding the cause of death. During discussions with Tijuana officials, Andrade refrained from giving many details and mentioned that the incident might be linked to the end of the municipal administration.
Miguel Ángel Bujanda is a close associate of Tijuana’s current administration under Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez.
