### Bodies Found Near Landfill Do Not Belong to Missing Engineer and Assistant, Says Investigator
**Tijuana, August 13, 2024** — The bodies discovered near the Eco Waste landfill site last Sunday have been confirmed not to belong to the missing engineer José Guerrero and his assistant Rubén Rojas. This clarification was provided by Miguel Ángel Gaxiola Rodríguez, a prosecutor specializing in homicides at the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).
“Although the bodies were found near the area, in a canyon where the Municipal Police were conducting a search related to another crime and came across the bodies in a pit, it’s clear they are not them. The timeline is different,” explained Gaxiola Rodríguez.
Family members of Guerrero and Rojas, who have been missing since March 27 while conducting topographical surveys in the El Jibarito neighborhood near the Eco Waste landfill, have criticized institutional neglect in the search effort. This is the first body discovery in the area, according to Gaxiola Rodríguez, who emphasized that the bodies were found in a nearby site, not the landfill, and had been there for three to four weeks, not several months as required for the timeline of Guerrero and Rojas.
María Elena Andrade Ramírez, head of the FGE, indicated that while Guerrero and Rojas were using drones and other measurement tools during their work, their killers mistook them for members of a rival criminal group. Although their bodies haven’t been found, Andrade Ramírez reported the detention of four individuals—three men and one woman—suspected of their murders.
“We have a strong investigation file, and it’s under judicial review. It’s not common to proceed judicially without finding the bodies, but a meticulous investigation has allowed us to move forward,” the attorney general stated.
Andrade Ramirez reaffirmed the ongoing efforts in collaboration with the families and in the search for the bodies. “We’ve moved tons of garbage and are using several machines to clear the trash because as we dig, more waste is generated,” she added.
