**Final Days of Álvaro Blancarte’s Exhibition at La Caja Gallery**

“La Caja Gallery” is currently hosting the exhibition “In Search of the Oldest Fish in the World” by the late master artist Álvaro Blancarte. This exhibition will conclude on February 20, having been open since September of the previous year.

Blancarte, originally from Sinaloa, moved to the border town of Tecate in 1986, where he continued to build his reputation as a cornerstone of Baja Californian artistry. The exhibition celebrates Blancarte’s legacy and his contributions to art, commemorating what would have been his 90th birthday in 2024.

The exhibition features various pieces such as “In the Old Seas,” “In the Textures of the Sea,” “Yellow Seas,” “White Seas,” “Reaching the Green Seas,” “Very White Seas,” “The Sea Has No Color,” “Green Sand Seas,” and “The Oldest Fish.”

According to an interpretive note by Monserrat Sánchez, Blancarte’s work is deeply rooted in mythical stories where nature and the elements of earth communicate the origins of human existence, dating back to ancient times. This series was inspired by Blancarte’s encounter with Roque, a man of Pericu descent, who shared oral traditions from his region, rich with mysteries and ancestral myths.

This exhibition marks the first time Blancarte’s series “In Search of the Oldest Fish in the World” is formally displayed in Tijuana, offering visitors an opportunity to experience his approach to Baja California Sur’s ancient myths. The works are crafted with rich textures and vibrant materials, showcasing Blancarte’s unique artistic language.
