Bianca Protests Demand Justice

Protesting outside FGE, Bianca Perez’s family demands transparency on her femicide case, expressing frustration over delays and lack of support. Activists push for justice and change in Ensenada.

### Protests Over Inaction and Lack of Transparency in Bianca’s Case

On Tuesday, September 24, Bianca Pérez’s family protested at the entrance of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to express their outrage over being denied access to the investigation file. Bianca Pérez, a 19-year-old woman, was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner, Joshua Okniel, on a beach in Ensenada. Despite this, her family has yet to receive their entitled support as indirect victims of femicide.

According to the FGE, the responsibility for follow-up lies with the DIF and the Victim Support Unit. However, the delays and lack of transparency have frustrated Bianca’s family, who revealed that Bianca had filed two complaints against Joshua for physical abuse. In one of these instances, Bianca was pregnant and still suffered a brutal attack.

Protesters posted messages on the FGE’s front door, stating, “Bianca’s case is a result of negligence by the FGE. Joshua ‘N’ has prior complaints for violence,” and “The FGE must ensure families are not re-victimized.” An accompanying activist emphasized that there has been no expedited or transparent process for the family.

Three months have passed since Bianca’s body was discovered in the dunes of Loma Dorada. The family has continuously demanded justice, with Joshua Okniel currently detained and facing trial for her murder, allegedly committed by asphyxiation on June 22.

Alarmingly, Bianca’s family has not received psychological support or legal advice, which are guarantees for indirect victims in femicide cases according to the attorney’s office. The only reparation offered has been reimbursement for funeral expenses, which the family has not yet received.

Regarding psychological support for Bianca’s two children, the necessary assistance was requested at the start of the orphanhood protocol. However, follow-up by DIF and the Victim Support Unit has yet to be effective. Additionally, reparations were requested when Bianca’s mother was officially recognized as an indirect victim within the investigation.

Despite the implementation of gender perspective protocols and requests for forensic certifications at the investigation’s onset, the family stresses that these measures have not been sufficient in delivering justice or closure.
