**Judicial Strike Halts Access to Justice in BCS: Expert Analysis**

Adrián de la Rosa Escalante, a Human Rights expert and academic, has outlined the far-reaching impacts of the strike within the Federal Judiciary in Baja California Sur (BCS), which has essentially brought access to justice to a standstill. The expert highlighted the uncertainty surrounding the duration of the strike, emphasizing its primary consequence: the inability to grant provisional or definitive suspensions or judgments.

Dr. de la Rosa Escalante explained that the Federal Judiciary is particularly known for handling amparo trials, where individuals seek protection across various legal areas, including civil, family, commercial, criminal, fiscal, labor, and environmental matters. “All these areas will come to a halt. Legally, terms won’t expire because the Judiciary isn’t working, but processes will be suspended,” he remarked.

The expert underlined that this suspension can lead to both substantial financial and rights impacts. Citizens awaiting judgments or provisional suspensions to prevent ongoing damage, for instance, will need to wait. This situation has arisen as Judiciary workers protest against President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s proposed reforms that affect judicial careers and worker benefits.

Moreover, although it is possible to file some processes digitally, this also seems to be affected. As a result, people are left without any means to seek federal judicial intervention. Notably, over 300 employees, including judges and magistrates, in Baja California Sur have joined the strike this week.

The proposed judicial reform is protested against for allegedly undermining the rights of the workforce, attempting to eliminate judicial careers, and affecting benefits for officers, clerks, and secretaries.

In related developments, a strike by Spanish judicial workers has led to significant legal delays and disruptions across the country. The strike, initiated in response to wage disputes and working conditions, has exacerbated the backlog of cases, leaving many without timely judicial remedies.

The Spanish judiciary’s ongoing strike is part of a broader movement seen in several countries where judicial workers demand better conditions and oppose reforms they view as detrimental to judicial independence. These strikes highlight the crucial role of the judiciary in providing access to justice and the substantial impact when such services are interrupted.

Judicial strikes, both in Mexico and globally, underline the delicate balance between implementing reforms and ensuring the effective functioning of judicial systems to safeguard citizens’ access to justice.
