**BC Leads in Granting Mortgage Loans to Same-Sex Couples Nationwide: Infonavit**

Baja California has taken the lead in providing mortgage loans through the Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (Infonavit) to same-sex couples on a national level. According to Ana Lizeth Gómez, the regional delegate of Infonavit, the state issued 698 loans, surpassing Jalisco with 490 loans and Nuevo León with 386 loans.

The “Unamos Créditos” program, which allows individuals to combine their available credit with that of a partner, family member, friend, or anyone without legal or familial ties, has facilitated home ownership for many. As of May this year, out of the 4,642 loans granted nationwide through this program, 2,321 were awarded to same-sex couples.

Gómez emphasized that the program does not require any legal relationship between the participants, stating, “We don’t carry out any type of legal or familial affiliation. Just by deciding to combine their credit capacities, they gain access to this program, enabling them to purchase homes of higher value.”

So far this year, Infonavit has issued more than 4,600 loans under this scheme in Baja California. In total, over 15,000 loans have been granted in the state, with 10,000 of them aimed at home improvement and the rest covering the purchase of land or new or existing homes. Gómez added that 60 percent of the mortgage loans were allocated to workers from Tijuana.

**Increasing Nationwide Acceptance: Infonavit’s Support for Diverse Families**

In recent years, Infonavit has become more inclusive, acknowledging the changing social dynamics by extending its mortgage loan programs to various family configurations, including same-sex couples. This progressive move reflects a broader trend in mortgage lending nationwide.

The “Unamos Créditos” initiative enables individuals to combine their credit with others, fostering a sense of community and cooperation among loan applicants, irrespective of their legal or familial ties. This inclusiveness is significant in regions like Baja California, where diverse family structures are prevalent.

Since its launch, the scheme has gained considerable popularity. Nationally, there’s been a steady increase in the usage of combined credits for purchasing homes, with nearly half of the recent loans issued under this program being utilized by same-sex couples. This trend underscores a growing acknowledgment and support for diverse family units in the housing market.

Overall, Infonavit’s flexible approach has not only enabled more people to own homes by pooling resources but has also paved the way for a more inclusive and equitable housing finance system in Mexico.
