In Baja California, around 8,000 properties are in the process of being reclaimed by the state government through the region’s mortgage courts. These homes are set to be reintroduced to the market as part of the State Housing Program (PEV), as announced by Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo, the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territorial Reorganization (Sidurt).

During a press conference, Espinoza Jaramillo explained the initiative’s focus on releasing a significant number of properties, primarily in Tijuana and Mexicali. These recovered homes will be refurbished and sold, with the potential for current occupants to purchase their homes through credit agreements.

Furthermore, some of the reclaimed properties may become part of the ‘Vivienda Violeta’ initiative, which supports single mothers in cities like Tijuana and Ensenada. Espinoza Jaramillo shared that since the launch of the PEV, 26,689 new homes have been constructed across the state, 12,458 of these in Tijuana. Out of these, 3,200 homes have been completed and 2,955 handed over to new owners.

Looking ahead, the state plans to collaborate with Infonavit to repurpose land that is either owned by the institution or repossessed by banks, making these houses available for purchase once more. A forthcoming batch includes the release of 71 properties in Tijuana.

The government is coordinating efforts between new owners, state authorities, and local councils to expedite the processes of handing over these homes.
