In an interview outside her transition house located in the Iztapalapa district, Sheinbaum shared that Batres would indeed be part of her team. “With Martí, we’re figuring out how he will assist me. I will share more details later,” said Sheinbaum, a former head of government for Mexico City herself. She indicated that she would be introducing new members of her team on a nearly daily basis until her inauguration on October 1, 2024.
#### Who is Martí Batres Guadarrama?
Martí Batres Guadarrama, born on January 26, 1967, in Mexico City, holds a Law degree from Universidad Humanitas. He has a robust political career, having served as a senator with the Morena party and as president of the Constitutional Points Commission in the Senate. Batres was also a member of the National Council of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) starting in 1993 and later held several positions within the party.
He was a local deputy in the first Legislative Assembly of the Federal District and a federal deputy in the LVIII Legislature, where he led the PRD parliamentary group. After years with PRD, Batres moved to the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) in 2012, where he was elected the organization’s first president.
Additionally, from 2006 to 2011, he served as the Secretary of Social Development under the administration of Marcelo Ebrard in Mexico City. In 2021, he became the Secretary of Government of Mexico City and took over as head of government in June 2023 after Sheinbaum stepped down.
