**Workplace Accidents in Baja California Reach Over 5,000 in 2024 With Nine Fatalities Reported**
In the year 2024, Baja California has seen between 5,000 and 5,500 workplace accidents, according to Alejandro Arregui Ibarra, the head of the state’s Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS). Of these incidents, nine have resulted in fatalities between January and November.
Arregui Ibarra highlighted that the accidents range from minor injuries, like scrapes, to serious ones, including car accidents occurring during work commutes. The most recent fatality was on November 5th at a recycling plant in Tijuana, where a forklift operator tragically lost his life.
Authorities are ensuring the worker’s social security was in order and that the company is up-to-date with its financial contributions. They are also initiating procedures with the labor attorney’s office to declare the beneficiaries and manage compensation for the bereaved families.
Elsewhere in Baja California, companies like Prime Wheel have resumed operations after addressing municipal fines, and there continues to be scrutiny over temporary (“golondrina”) businesses as legislative discussions progress.
