**Baja California Recognizes Indigenous Women’s Advocates** Delfina Albañez Arballo and Cristina Solano Díaz honored for empowering indigenous communities, preserving heritage. Award ceremony coincides with International Day of Indigenous Women.

### Inmujeres and INPI Recognize Women from Baja California

Two dedicated women from Baja California, Delfina Albañez Arballo and Cristina Solano Díaz, have been honored with the Martha Sánchez Néstor National Award for the Promotion of Indigenous Women’s Rights. This accolade, in its third edition, was bestowed by the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI) and the National Institute for Women (INMUJERES) for their contributions to empowering indigenous girls and women, while also preserving their cultural heritage.

Delfina Albañez Arballo, who hails from the Pai Pai community of Santa Catarina, and Cristina Solano Díaz, of Mixteco heritage from Cañón Buenavista in Ensenada, were celebrated for their unwavering commitment to their communities. Ms. Albañez has been a pillar in the dissemination of Pai Pai traditions through song, storytelling, and dance. Meanwhile, Ms. Solano, originally from Guerrero but now a long-time resident of Baja California, works tirelessly in advocating for justice, human rights, and service provision in both Guerrero and Baja California, maintaining the use of her native language.

The award ceremony coincided with the International Day of Indigenous Women, held on September 5 at INMUJERES headquarters in Mexico City. The event was led by federal authorities who lauded these women’s efforts in enhancing the status and rights of indigenous women.

Mónica Vargas Núñez, the head of the Institute for Women in Baja California (INMUJER BC), expressed immense pride in their achievements. She highlighted that these recognitions epitomize the steadfast progress made in Baja California towards women’s empowerment under the leadership of Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda. Governor Avila encourages initiatives to empower women and create spaces for active participation.

Vargas Núñez also mentioned that the state’s development plan prioritizes women and that INMUJER BC plays a crucial role in the Observatory for the Political Participation of Women. The institute also contributes to the Judicial Power Observatory, ensuring that judicial decisions are made with a gender perspective.
