## 61% of Free Textbooks Have Arrived in Baja California: Secretary of Education
**Tijuana, August 18, 2024** — As the new 2024-25 school year approaches, Baja California has received over 61% of the free textbooks intended for public school students in the state, according to Luis Gilberto Gallegos Cortez, the head of the local Department of Education.
Gallegos Cortez mentioned that a total of 4.5 million basic education textbooks will be distributed to 599,000 students at this educational level. “Since last week, we have started distributing these textbooks to various school sections,” he stated. The process involves extensive logistics at distribution centers where school administrators, supervisors, and support staff collect the books or organize deliveries.
The arrival of these textbooks depends on the National Commission of Free Textbooks (Conaliteg), and the full supply is expected by August 26, aligning with the start of the new school year. Meanwhile, higher education students began their courses earlier on August 5 with induction programs.
