Young Poets from Baja California Participate in Time for Literature Event
The International Writers Meeting “Tiempo de Literatura 2024” recently provided a platform for emerging young poets from Baja California, born in the 1990s and early 2000s, to present their literary works. During the second day of the event, on Friday, October 25, authors such as Ángel Manuel Nuño and Enrique Martínez Apodaca from Tijuana showcased their writings to students at the Colegio de Bachilleres (Cobach) Baja California in Mexicali. Meanwhile, poets from Mexicali, including Julián Rivera, Brayham Contreras, and Rosela Granados, shared their works at the University Theater Lobby at UABC Campus Mexicali.
Tijuana author Ángel Manuel Nuño, born in 2001, holds a degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Autonomous University of Baja California. He is a recipient of the Baja California Artistic Creation and Development Stimulus Program (PECDA) and has worked as a research intern at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte. Nuño’s writings have appeared in various digital magazines such as Hipérbole Frontera and Interliteraria.
Enrique Martínez Apodaca, also from Tijuana, studied Communication Sciences at the Autonomous University of Baja California in Tijuana. He authored the poetry collection “CapitalHardgore” and has contributed to media outlets like La Jornada Baja California. His poetic work is featured in digital publications like Poetripiados and Nómada Press. In 2019, he was included in the anthology “130 años, 130 palabras,” and one of his stories was published in braille by the Tecate City Institute of Art and Culture.
From Mexicali, Rosela Granados Andrade is a teacher of literature and humanities, and she actively promotes literary contests and reading among young people. Her poetry collection, “Casa de Mar,” was published in 2020, and her work has been featured in anthologies such as “Desiertos Nortes Poéticos” and “Voces Desérticas.”
Brayham Contreras, residing in Mexicali, graduated from the School of Human Sciences at UABC and is involved in the Poetry Club, a cultural diffusion group. He is working on a diploma in literature and finalizing his Media Arts studies.
Julián Rivera Jiménez, originally from Sinaloa and now living in Mexicali, holds a degree in Hispanic Language and Literature and a Master’s in Modern Languages from the Autonomous University of Baja California. He teaches English and academic writing at Cetys University and researches language, gender, and sexuality. His creations often reflect personal experiences and are published independently on social media and in anthologies focused on trans poetry.
