### New Authorities in Baja California – TJGringo.com
**By Luz Elena Picos, August 12, 2024**
Do you sleep peacefully at night? How do you manage to do so amidst all the global catastrophes, and the myriad problems in our state and its municipalities? Is it even possible to escape these issues? Not delving too deeply, it appears highly challenging. Administering a city seems to be a job fit for superheroes. When we hear the numerous promises made by candidates from all parties, it feels difficult to believe they can fulfill them.
In our state, it’s tough to converse with friends without encountering a series of problems that the incoming mayors (only one for Tecate) and mayoresses of the six municipalities must solve. Starting with distant San Quintín, a user of the “Transpeninsular Highway” describes the road as riddled with potholes and narrowing to single lanes in several stretches. How many years has it been without maintenance?
In San Quintín, which holds potential as a remarkable tourist spot, there’s fear among many residents and visitors due to reports that drug lords have taken large swathes of land for their plantations. Residents and visitors alike whisper about this concerning issue. Likewise, in Mexicali and Tecate, the situation seems dire with difficulties involving illicit activities. Let’s hope new officials bring fresh ideas and strategies to improve living conditions for the residents.
In Tijuana, people expect the new authorities to demonstrate intelligence, capability, and genuine interest in the city’s wellbeing. It’s not just the mayor but the entire roster of councilors who need to unite, putting aside their party affiliations to work harmoniously for the city they claim to love so much. The previous council members often opted for power struggles to prove their strength, neglecting duties like maintaining fire department facilities. We must remember their failures to ensure they think twice before asking for votes again.
**Note 1:**
Tijuana is experiencing a surge in stray dogs. Neither the state nor the municipality has taken significant action to solve this issue.

San Quintín residents report a rise in drug cultivation activities, raising concerns about safety and law enforcement efficacy. According to residents, large portions of land are being converted into drug plantations, directly affecting the local community’s sense of security and potential tourist interest.
Local authorities are expected to tackle these issues as part of their administrative duties. With new officials in office, there’s hope for fresh strategies and stronger enforcement measures to curb illicit activities and boost the region’s safety and attractiveness.
Community leaders and residents alike are calling for a more comprehensive approach to deal with these problems, emphasizing the need for collaboration between local governments, law enforcement agencies, and the community to restore peace and promote economic prosperity through legal avenues.
