Baja Flu Free Pre Winter

“Baja California reports zero influenza cases, focusing on vaccination campaigns. However, a surge in whooping cough cases prompts intensified efforts to safeguard public health before winter arrives.”

**No Reported Cases of Influenza in Baja California Before Winter Season**

In the lead-up to the winter season, Baja California has reported no influenza cases, thanks to proactive health measures by the region’s health department. According to Adrian Medina Amarillas, head of the Baja California Health Department, the vaccination campaign has been underway across the state’s seven municipalities for over a month. The campaign offers vaccines against seasonal influenza, pneumonia, and COVID-19 to the population.

Medina Amarillas shared that the health sector successfully administered 350,000 influenza doses in less than four weeks, helping to control the spread of the disease. “Winter is yet to come, and while we know that the season is approaching, we are prepared, and fortunately, we have not registered any influenza cases or fatalities,” he stated.

The recent health initiative also included, for the first time, pneumococcal vaccines to curb the rise in pneumonia cases, which tend to increase during the winter months. Around 75,000 adults aged 60 and above have been vaccinated against pneumococcus, while about 55,000 individuals received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Medina Amarillas expressed optimism for the campaign by saying, “We hope to achieve outcomes similar to last year, where we significantly reduced influenza cases and related deaths.”

**Whooping Cough Cases Detected in Baja California**

While influenza remains under control in Baja California, the region has seen a rise in whooping cough cases, with Tijuana reporting the highest number of incidents. Health authorities are now focusing on addressing this issue to prevent further transmission.

In response to this outbreak, health officials are intensifying their efforts to promote vaccinations against whooping cough, especially in vulnerable populations. Awareness campaigns are being ramped up to ensure that those at risk, particularly young children and the elderly, receive timely vaccinations.

Additional health measures are being considered to ensure public safety and prevent any potential spread during the upcoming winter months. This concerted effort highlights the state’s commitment to maintaining public health and preparing for potential challenges associated with the winter season.
