Baja Fest Boosts Artist Security

“Heightened security measures are urged for artists at Baja Beach Fest following past threats and concerns over safety in Mexican events. Collaboration between organizers and authorities is crucial for a safer experience.”

**Call for Enhanced Security Measures for Artists at Baja Beach Fest**

The buzz surrounding the 2024 Baja Beach Fest has filled the Playas de Rosarito tourist area, bustling with activity on Friday, August 9th. The festival’s organization led to the closure of the north-to-south lane of Benito Juárez Boulevard, causing significant traffic congestion. The team of headlining artist Rauw Alejandro requested heightened security measures from the Baja California State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) due to the event’s scale and excitement.

Organizers of the festival’s sixth edition have taken additional measures to secure the area by blocking access to the beach from Zona Barbachano to the DIF parking lot with security barriers and private security personnel, restricting free passage in the zone.

With the large influx of tourists, predominantly from California, USA, local vendors seized the opportunity to hike their prices, with nearby parking fees ranging from $50 to $65, and “VIP parking” going up to $100.

It’s noteworthy that past editions of Baja Beach Fest have faced challenges, such as inadequate security and health protocols in 2021. This year, there have been threats against some performers, such as Peso Pluma, who canceled his Tijuana performance in October 2023 due to alleged death threats from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Similarly, Fuerza Regida, a group known for corridos tumbados, canceled an October concert following the appearance of a narcomessage signed by the CJNG.

Despite the challenges, both Peso Pluma and Fuerza Regida are scheduled to perform at Baja Beach Fest on Saturday, August 10th, and Sunday, August 11th, respectively.

**Additional Coverage: Rising Concerns Over Event Security in Mexico**

Recent news highlights the growing concern for security at major events in Mexico. In light of past incidents involving artists, authorities are urged to ramp up protective measures to ensure the safety of performers and attendees alike.

One notable incident that drew attention was Peso Pluma’s canceled appearance due to threats in Tijuana labeled by CJNG. Fuerza Regida also faced similar risks last year, leading to the band’s show being pulled from the lineup. Such occurrences underscore a broader issue concerning the safety of artists and the possible influence of organized crime on public events.

As festivals like Baja Beach Fest continue to attract large crowds, the call for enhanced security protocols is likely to grow louder. Both event organizers and law enforcement must work collaboratively to address and mitigate these risks, ensuring that future events can proceed without fear of violence or disruption.
