**Baja California Fencers Head to World Championship in Boston**
Top fencers from Baja California are set to kick off their 2025 season with an exciting participation in the Fencing World Cup taking place in Boston, Massachusetts, starting Wednesday, January 15. The team consists of seasoned athletes Alejandra Beltrán, María Constanza Martínez Ortega, and Carlos Eduardo Toledo, who have rigorously prepared over December and January at the High-Performance Center (CAR). Their primary aim is to gain valuable experience and earn points to enhance their global rankings.
Maco Ortega, who is making her debut in international competitions, expressed her enthusiasm and eagerness to partake in this event alongside her teammates. “I am eager to highlight my skills here as this represents a chance to carve a path beyond Mexico, especially with my ambitions to study at Harvard,” she shared. Her ascent in fencing is attributed to her training under Cuban coach Santiago Bolaños from INDE Baja California, which has propelled her to shine at recent CONADE Nationals in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
Alejandra Beltrán, who has been a steadfast member of the national team for four years, sees this championship as a pivotal step in her preparation for the Pan American Championship. “We’re starting the year with great energy, ready to compete in Boston. This will serve as essential practice for upcoming competitions like the national qualifier in Villahermosa, Tabasco, and the Pan American Championship,” Beltrán stated confidently.
