The culinary scene in Baja California continues to thrive. Following events like its inclusion in the Michelin Guide earlier this year and the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Caesar Salad, the 11th edition of the Baja Culinary Fest is now set to enrich the food event roster in the region. The festival, featuring 40 restaurants and 20 wineries, is scheduled to take place from October 16 to 19 across various gastronomic venues.

The event will include competitions, dinners, wine tastings, and food sampling sessions hosted by culinary masters from Baja California. This year’s special guest is the state of Nayarit.

“We have been collaborating through the Gulf of California alliance, involving four states, on initiatives spanning nature tourism and gastronomy. We are thrilled to culminate these efforts with the Baja Culinary Fest,” said Miguel Aguiñaga Rodríguez, Baja California’s Secretary of Tourism.

Rodríguez added that the event marks a historic moment for Baja California, as Mexico was recently included in the Michelin Guide, making 2024 the first year the state has been recognized with three red stars, three green stars, and over 20 recommendations.

“Baja Culinary will be a fantastic showcase to present what Baja California’s cuisine has to offer, courtesy of our chefs and traditional cooks. There’s no better occasion to highlight the rich flavors we have,” Rodríguez added.

The director of Baja Culinary Fest, Alan I. Bautista Plascencia, mentioned that dinner prices will range from 1,500 to 2,500 pesos, with tickets available through the event’s official websites, where space is limited.

In an unprecedented move earlier this year, Mexico was included in the prestigious Michelin Guide, with Baja California being prominently featured. The state received three red stars, three green stars, and over 20 recommendations, signaling its emergence as a significant player on the global culinary stage.

This recognition has encouraged local chefs and restaurateurs to innovate and elevate their offerings. Events like the Baja Culinary Fest serve as the perfect platform to showcase the state’s evolving food culture.

“This inclusion in the Michelin Guide has placed a spotlight on Baja California’s culinary talent. It’s an achievement we are proud of, and we look forward to further promoting our unique cuisine,” stated a local chef during a recent interview.

The Michelin Guide’s recognition underscores the growing international reputation of Baja California’s gastronomy, which blends traditional Mexican flavors with contemporary culinary techniques. As Baja continues to gain acclaim, locals and tourists alike can expect even more exciting dining experiences in the region.
