Baja Californians Go Digital

“In Baja California, 200,000 residents have embraced digital identity apps, like vehicle registration renewals. Efforts to modernize services are met with positive responses across Tijuana, Mexicali, and Rosarito.”

### 200,000 Baja Californians Have Downloaded the Digital Identity Application

In Tijuana, Mexicali, and Rosarito, regulations have been updated to allow residents to present their vehicular registration digitally to authorities. According to Gabriel Palombo, Director General of the Digital Agency, a total of 200,000 Baja Californians have downloaded the state’s digital identity application to digitally represent their documents.

“We have 62 procedures that are 100% online available through the state’s Digital Agency. Two notable examples are the renewal of the vehicle registration card and the digital issuance of a criminal record clearance certificate. Over 55,000 Baja Californians had renewed their vehicle registration digitally by the end of June,” Palombo said.

Another example is the digital criminal record clearance, which has been utilized by 20,000 individuals this year alone. “We’ve seen a growth of over 200% in the adoption of digital procedures. With just these two processes, nearly 100,000 Baja Californians haven’t needed to visit government offices in the last two years,” Palombo added.

In Tijuana, Mexicali, and Playas de Rosarito, adjustments were made to allow for the digital presentation of vehicle registration and driving licenses in front of authorities. Palombo mentioned that both federal and state laws entitle these digital licenses, and the seven municipalities have been informed about these new documents.

“We’ve been working closely with the different police forces, training them on the existence and legitimacy of these digital documents,” Palombo explained. Moreover, collaborative efforts are ongoing with the Ministry of Finance to enable the digital renewal of driving licenses.
