Government of Baja California, with Tijuana City Council, to distribute 71,000 free transport cards for Agua Caliente Route, aiming to enhance public transportation accessibility and efficiency.

### 71,000 Free Cards for Agua Caliente Route: Baja California’s Initiative

Starting Monday, October 14, the government of Baja California, in collaboration with the Tijuana City Council, will distribute 71,000 prepaid transportation cards for the Agua Caliente Route at no cost. These cards are part of a welfare initiative to modernize and streamline public transportation in the region.

Jorge Alberto GutiĆ©rrez Topete, director of the Sustainable Mobility Institute of the State (IMOS), announced, “We’ve invested in procuring these cards, and through this initiative, we aim to provide users with their cards, thereby reducing cash transactions.”

The cards can be recharged via the StopBusTijuana app or at any OXXO stores along the Agua Caliente corridor. While OXXO stores will sell the cards, their exact price remains undisclosed. There are two card types available: a general user card, which includes 10 rides, requiring a valid identification for purchase, and a preferential card for individuals with disabilities, students, and senior citizens. The preferential card includes 20 rides and necessitates registration at the accreditation module set up in Plaza Patria, along with relevant documents to verify eligibility.

Additionally, on October 10th, 11 more units were added to the Agua Caliente Route 13 lineup, raising the total to 97 vehicles. Among these, 76 are black, and 21 are violetā€”specifically reserved for women and girls, as well as boys under 11 years old. An expansion is set for 2025 with 13 additional units planned, each capable of accommodating 140 passengers.

As part of the transportation overhaul, over 700 red and black taxis previously operating on this route have been reassigned to new residential areas, leading to the creation of 11 new transit routes, including:

– Colinas de la Presa-Lomas de la Presa-Chapultepec Alamar-5 y 10
– AmpliaciĆ³n Villas del Ɓlamo
– Ruta Express Colinas de la Presa-SimĆ³n BolĆvar-BenĆtez-5 y 10
