## Baja California’s Boxing Delegation Aims for Gold at National Popular Games
The boxing team representing Baja California is geared up to compete in the 2024 National Popular Games (JNP) in Oaxaca. The delegation, consisting of 10 skilled boxers, will participate from August 18 to August 26.
“We have been training intensively since January as this is the most significant tournament of the year for us. We are ready with our best athletes,” said Diego Morales, the head coach of the boxing team. “This year, we are aiming for more gold medals since last year we only secured some silver and bronze ones,” added the former world champion, who has high hopes of outperforming participants from Mexico City, Querétaro, and Nuevo León.
Boxer Héctor Macías from the 2008-2009 category is particularly driven this year. After winning the silver medal last year in his JNP debut, he is determined to clinch gold. “Last year we brought home the silver. Now we’re aiming for the gold. We’ve trained hard, completed many rounds, and maintained discipline and consistency. We are well-prepared and more focused,” said the 16-year-old who trains at the Zona Norte Sports Unit.
“The competition will be tough, especially against participants from Mexico City who are known for their fighting spirit. But we are ready and in top form,” concluded Macías, known affectionately as “Pelón.”
