A survivor of the crash that occurred during the mechanical review for the Baja 1000 race on Thursday, November 14, is in stable condition and recovering, as reported by representatives from the event organizers. The man, an American, suffered injuries to his left hand, but his health is said to be improving, according to Juan Tintos Funcke, the general director and legal representative of the event. The image of his hand quickly went viral due to its severity.
“He’s improving and remains hospitalized at Velmar Hospital. The latest medical report shows slight improvement,” Tintos Funcke stated, also dismissing circulating false rumors about the survivor’s condition, confirming he is not in danger. The injured man is part of the support crew for one of the teams participating in the 57th edition of the famous off-road race.
The incident occurred when Eduardo “N,” driving a Trophy vehicle, lost control and unexpectedly accelerated, resulting in a chain collision with three other vehicles. The survivor, along with others injured, was caught up in the chaos following the crash. His hand was injured during the initial collision, while others, including two who have died, suffered in subsequent impacts by the other involved vehicles.
