### Arena Valle de Guadalupe Cancels Concerts and Fails to Issue Refunds
In a disappointing turn of events, the Arena Valle de Guadalupe (AVG), recently inaugurated only three months ago, has left over 5,000 concertgoers without refunds for cancelled events featuring artists Carín León, as well as Pepe and Ángela Aguilar. The grand venue, located within the renowned Ruta del Vino, has a capacity of 10,000 attendees and was expected to host numerous large-scale events.
Ticket purchasers, who utilized the digital platform Tickets AVG, are now encountering significant obstacles in their quest for refunds. Issues highlighted include the lack of listed contact numbers, absence of a physical office, no visible Federal Taxpayer Registry (RFC), and the AVG name not being registered with the Public Registry of Commerce. These factors complicate any formal complaint procedures.
The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) identifies these actions as fraudulent but suggests difficulties in pursuing criminal charges as the company may argue it was also affected by the artists’ cancellations. Still, the civil route for claims remains an option for ticket buyers.
Ticket costs for these events ranged significantly, with general admission for Carín León starting at 1,800 pesos and VIP sections reaching up to 7,000 pesos. Customers reported facing elaborate hurdles when seeking reimbursements, with several expressing their frustrations online.
While AVG coordinators remain largely unresponsive to press inquiries, they did issue an official notice on July 4, promising refunds between July 8 and August 9, and announcing a rescheduled date for Carín León’s concert on November 17.
During its inauguration on May 17, AVG representatives highlighted the expected economic benefits for Ensenada, touting the arena as a future cultural and entertainment hub. Unfortunately, the subsequent cancellations and poor refund policies have marred its reputation.
Affected customers, like Dianet, who purchased tickets worth 1,500 pesos each for a Carín León concert, shared accounts of fruitless refund attempts and frustrating email exchanges with AVG. Public resentment continues to grow as AVG’s social media pages are inundated with negative feedback, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction and distrust.
The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) advises that affected individuals formally lodge complaints against AVG Tickets to initiate conciliation procedures. They note that complaints can be made within a year of the incident.
In another incident, Ticketmaster was given a 48-hour window by Profeco to retract a no-refund policy for a similar situation involving artist cancellations at festivals, underscoring that service providers must adhere to consumer protection laws.
Finally, the FGE has indicated their willingness to investigate fraud claims, urging individuals to report instances where the companies might have continued ticket sales despite knowing about the cancellations.
