### Art Raffle Organized to Support Camelia García

The collective “United for Camelia’s Health” announced on Monday, September 9, that an art raffle will be held to benefit the Tijuana writer and journalist, Camelia Elizabeth García Arellano, who has been battling ovarian cancer since 2020.

“Earlier this year, news of Camelia’s condition was shared, prompting the artistic and journalistic communities both locally and in Mexico City, where Camelia now resides, to form ‘United for Camelia’s Health.’ The collective aims to raise donations for her treatment,” stated a representative. Despite efforts, the campaign fell short of its 400,000 pesos goal. To continue assisting with her medical expenses, Laura Jáuregui, a Tijuana editor and friend of Camelia, is coordinating the raffle alongside other collective members. A generous group of artists have donated eight pieces of artwork to be raffled off.

In February 2024, the collective provided an update on Camelia’s situation: “At the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, Camelia was diagnosed with stage III C ovarian cancer with a prognosis of three months to live. However, her strength and tremendous faith have allowed her to push through multiple chemotherapies and surgeries. Currently, Camelia, who lives in Mexico City, is still undergoing chemotherapy for liver metastasis. Doctors believe this new round of chemo is the best approach to combat the tumors, potentially avoiding a major surgery that would require intensive care.”

Now in September, to support Camelia, renowned artists such as Francisco Morales, Rocío Hoffmann, Teresa López Avedoy, Carlos Martínez, Felipe Posada, Hans Giébe, Daniel GM, and Milagros a Mano have come together to contribute their work for the raffle.

“Four prizes will be raffled among participants in Tijuana and surrounding areas, and four others for those in Mexico City and its surrounding areas. If the winner does not reside in these cities, the prize will be sent to their location. Tickets cost 150 pesos and can be purchased through the following methods in the name of Camelia Elizabeth García Arellano:
– Banco Azteca CLABE account: 1271 8001 3371 051714
– SPIN card (for OXXO deposits): 4217 4700 0476 5505

After making a payment, participants should send their receipt via social media on the Facebook or Instagram pages of “United for Camelia’s Health” or via WhatsApp to Laura Jáuregui at (664) 341-6745.

The raffle will take place on Sunday, October 6, through a live broadcast on Facebook Live on the ‘United for Camelia’s Health’ account. For more information, you can email [email protected] or contact them through Facebook and Instagram: #UnitedForCamellasHealth.
