## Seeking Participants Over 60 for “Art for Seniors” Workshop

La Caja Galería is launching the fourth edition of its popular “Art for Seniors” workshop, aimed at individuals aged 60 and above. Under the direction of Arturo Rodríguez and coordination by Gabriela Martínez Montes, the workshop will be guided by esteemed regional artists. It will span 11 sessions held every Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., commencing on September 23 and concluding on December 2, 2024.

The initiative seeks to engage older adults in the plastic arts, promoting self-reflection, self-awareness, and a sense of belonging through drawing, painting, and collage. It aims to enhance their artistic skills and inclusion in the art production community. According to La Caja Galería, the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Extended Studies, through its Mi Universidad program, will offer full scholarships covering materials and an end-of-course exhibition.

Interested participants must fill out an online application [here](https://forms.gle/S3WeenDm2hKKgqfdA) and attend an informative session on September 20 at 12:00 p.m. at La Caja Galería’s premises. ## Additional News: Exploring Art Opportunities for Seniors

In recent developments related to art programs for seniors, many institutions have been expanding their horizons to accommodate the older generation. For instance, the National Academy of Elder Art (NAEA) announced a series of workshops aimed at promoting holistic wellness through art practices. These initiatives are a part of a broader movement to integrate art therapy into senior care, emphasizing mental health and community engagement.

Similarly, the Arts and Minds organization in New York has been offering art-centered programs, specifically designed for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive impairments. These programs have demonstrated significant benefits, including improved cognitive function and emotional well-being among participants.

The growing interest in senior art programs underscores a crucial understanding: creativity and participation in the arts can significantly enrich the lives of older adults. This focus not only enhances the quality of life but also fosters a more inclusive and empathetic society.
