**By TJ Gringo Staff**

On September 30, 2024, the head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC-CDMX), Pablo Vázquez Camacho, announced the arrest of six suspects involved in the murder of Milton Morales Figueroa. Morales, the Chief Inspector and General Coordinator of the Unit for Strategy, Tactics and Special Operations, was fatally shot on July 21 in Coacalco, State of Mexico.

Vázquez Camacho disclosed via social media that the arrests were the result of joint efforts between Mexico’s central government, the State of Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FiscalíaEdomex), Mexico City’s Attorney General’s Office (FiscalíaCDMX), the Attorney General’s Office of Hidalgo (PGJE_Hidalgo), the Secretariat of Public Security of Hidalgo (SSP_Hidalgo), and the State Security of Mexico (SS_Edomex).

The SSC-CDMX revealed that nine people have now been detained in connection with the attack on Morales, with investigations progressing to ensure all responsible parties are identified and arrested. Vázquez Camacho emphasized that there will be no impunity for those involved.

The recent detentions include individuals who played roles in the planning, execution, and aftermath of the crime. Among them is ‘Leo’, presumed to have fired the fatal shot. The SSC-CDMX clarified that the arrests followed extensive coordinated efforts involving multiple federal and state law enforcement agencies, including the Mexican Army (SEDENA), Navy (SEMAR), and various intelligence services.

According to the SSC-CDMX, the individuals in custody are part of a criminal network responsible for the orchestration, facilitation, and execution of the murder. Prior arrests in July and August included members who engaged in preparatory actions and attempts to conceal the crime.

The murder of Milton Morales is believed to be linked to his effective operations against criminal cells in Mexico City and its metropolitan areas. The SSC-CDMX continues to pursue outstanding arrest warrants for two additional suspects in the case.
