### Félix Salgado Proposes “Andy Jr” for 2030 Presidential Run; Sheinbaum Supports His Right to Political Participation

Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio has stirred political waters by endorsing Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, one of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s sons, for a major political position within Mexico’s ruling party, Morena, and potentially for the presidency in 2030.

Salgado Macedonio, a prominent political figure from Guerrero, proposed López Beltrán for the role of Secretary General of Morena’s National Executive Committee (CEN) and hinted at his future presidential candidacy. “I see him as the Secretary General. Let’s announce it: Andy López Beltrán for Secretary General of Morena. He’s a hard worker and very intelligent,” Salgado stated.

When questioned about whether this sets the stage for a presidential bid in 2030, Salgado replied, “Don’t rule it out. It’s a good idea.”

Addressing concerns of nepotism given López Beltrán’s family ties, Salgado argued, “Andy López is a founder of Morena. He’s a vital asset for our party’s development. Nepotism doesn’t apply here since he isn’t holding a governmental position. Nepotism would be if family members of the next Morena president were appointed, and that’s not the case here.”

President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo also weighed in on the topic, emphasizing López Beltrán’s right to engage in politics following his father’s term. “Andrés Manuel López Beltrán has the right to participate in public life now that the President is retiring. It’s good he participates in Morena,” she said, adding that it is up to Morena’s VII National Extraordinary Congress to decide the party leadership.

Sheinbaum clarified that other sons of President López Obrador, José Ramón, and Gonzalo, show no interest in government roles and similarly, her children also are not inclined towards politics. “My children are dedicated to philosophy and the arts, and they will continue in those fields,” she added.

Mario Martín Delgado Carrillo, current president of Morena’s CEN, supported López Beltrán’s right to partake in the party’s internal elections, describing him as a dedicated organizer. “He’s been a part of the movement since he was young. He’s in his right to participate,” Delgado said.
